Ingredients

  • 500g beef (sirloin or chuck), cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional for depth)
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme or oregano
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 200ml beef broth or water
  • 100ml heavy cream or sour cream (for a creamy finish)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare The Beef:

  • Pat the beef cubes dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.

Sear The Beef:

  • Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes and sear until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.

Sauté Aromatics:

  • In the same pan, add chopped onions and cook until translucent. Add garlic and red bell pepper; cook for another 2–3 minutes.

Add Paprika And Spices:

  • Stir in sweet paprika, smoked paprika, thyme, and chili flakes. Toast for about 30 seconds to release their aroma.

Add Tomato Paste And Broth:

  • Mix in tomato paste and stir well. Pour in the beef broth, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Simmer:

  • Return the seared beef to the pan. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 25–30 minutes until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens.

Add Cream (Optional):

  • Stir in the heavy cream or sour cream for a rich, gourmet-style sauce. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes.

Garnish And Serve:

  • Sprinkle fresh parsley on top and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
