Cooked pasta is merged with broccoli and other flavorful ingredients, such as garlic, olive oil, and sometimes cheese or lemon, to start creating the simple and wholesome dish recognized as broccoli pasta.

- 250g (8 oz) pasta (penne, spaghetti, or fusilli)
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
Boil Pasta And Broccoli
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add pasta and cook according to package instructions.
Add broccoli florets to the pot during the last 3–4 minutes of cooking.
Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and broccoli.
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and red chili flakes (if using), sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
Combine Everything
Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet.
Pour in a bit of the reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
Toss everything to combine and heat through for 2–3 minutes.
Finish And Serve
Season with salt, pepper, and lemon zest if desired.
Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Serve warm.
