A brownie is a rich, chocolate-flavored baked delight with a texture between that of a cake and a cookie.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

(Optional Add-Ins)

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven
    to 175°C (350°F). Grease or line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt the butter
    in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave.
  • Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla
    to the melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  • Mix in cocoa powder,
    flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes,
    or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool in the pan
    before cutting into squares.
