A burrito is a popular Mexican and Tex-Mex dish that consists of a large flour tortilla wrapped around a variety of savory fillings.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large flour tortillas (10-inch)
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 cup cooked beans (black beans or pinto beans)
  • 1 cup cooked meat (chicken, beef, or pork), shredded or diced (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup salsa or pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 avocado or guacamole
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil or butter (for warming tortillas)

Instructions
 

Warm The Tortillas

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Warm each tortilla for about 30 seconds on each side until soft and pliable.

Layer The Fillings

  • In the center of each tortilla, layer:
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Meat (if using)
  • Cheese
  • Salsa or pico de gallo
  • Sour cream
  • Avocado or guacamole
  • Onion, cilantro (optional)

Season

  • Add a pinch of salt and pepper over the fillings.

Wrap The Burrito

  • Fold in the sides of the tortilla, then roll from the bottom up tightly into a burrito shape.

Optional – Toast The Burrito

  • Place the burrito seam-side down in the skillet for 1–2 minutes per side to toast and seal.

Serve

  • Slice in half or serve whole with extra salsa or sour cream on the side.
