Ingredients
  

  • 500g calamari (squid), cleaned
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch (optional, makes it extra crispy)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions
 

Prep The Calamari

  • Rinse the squid under cold water.
  • Slice into 1 cm thick rings.
  • Pat dry completely with a paper towel (important for crispiness).

Season & Coat

  • In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Toss the calamari rings in the flour mixture until fully coated.

Heat The Oil

  • Heat oil in a frying pan or deep fryer to 180°C (350°F).

Fry

  • Fry the calamari in small batches (do not overcrowd).
  • Cook for 1.5–2 minutes only. They should be light golden, not brown.
  • Overcooking makes them rubbery.

Drain & Serve

  • Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  • Serve immediately with lemon wedges, garlic mayo, marinara, or tartar sauce.
