- 500g calamari (squid), cleaned
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cornstarch (optional, makes it extra crispy)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika or chili powder (optional)
- Oil for deep frying
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Prep The Calamari
Rinse the squid under cold water.
Slice into 1 cm thick rings.
Pat dry completely with a paper towel (important for crispiness).
Season & Coat
In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and paprika.
Toss the calamari rings in the flour mixture until fully coated.
Fry
Fry the calamari in small batches (do not overcrowd).
Cook for 1.5–2 minutes only. They should be light golden, not brown.
Overcooking makes them rubbery.
Drain & Serve
Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Serve immediately with lemon wedges, garlic mayo, marinara, or tartar sauce.
