Ingredients

  • cups 280 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup 225 g unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup 150 g granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup 165 g packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups 340 g semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking trays with parchment paper or lightly grease them.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3: Cream the Butter and Sugars

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

Step 4: Add the Eggs and Vanilla

  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5: Combine the Ingredients

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Step 6: Fold in the Chocolate Chips

  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips and the chopped nuts, if using, until evenly distributed.

Step 7: Shape the Cookies

  • Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie and place them on the prepared baking trays, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) between each cookie.

Step 8: Bake

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers still look slightly soft.

Step 9: Cool

  • Let the cookies cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10: Serve and Store

  • Serve warm with a glass of milk or your favorite hot drink. Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
