Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal (yellow)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup milk (or buttermilk for richer flavor)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup melted butter (or vegetable oil)

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish or skillet.

Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Stir well.

Add Wet Ingredients:

  • In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and melted butter.

Combine:

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir just until combined—do not overmix.

Bake:

  • Pour batter into the prepared pan/skillet.
  • Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool & Serve:

  • Allow to cool for a few minutes. Slice and enjoy warm with butter, honey, or jam.
