Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes peeled
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder optional

Instructions

  • Grate the potatoes: Peel and grate the potatoes using a box grater.
  • Remove excess moisture: Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much water as possible. This helps make the hash browns crispy.
  • Season the potatoes: Transfer the grated potatoes to a bowl. Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder if desired. Mix well.
  • Heat the pan: Heat the vegetable oil and butter in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
  • Shape the hash browns: Add the grated potatoes to the pan and spread them into a thin, even layer. Press gently with a spatula.
  • Cook until crispy: Fry for 5–7 minutes without stirring, until the bottom becomes golden brown and crispy.
  • Flip and cook: Carefully flip the hash browns and cook for another 5–7 minutes until the other side is golden and the potatoes are cooked through.
  • Serve: Transfer to a plate and serve hot for a delicious, crispy breakfast.
