Ingredients

  • 500g boneless chicken (thighs or breasts), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (or all-purpose flour)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 egg (optional, for batter)
  • Oil for frying

For Lemon Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 tbsp honey or sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional, for extra lemony flavor)

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate The Chicken

  • In a bowl, mix chicken with 1 tbsp soy sauce and a little salt and pepper.
  • Let it marinate for at least 15–20 minutes.

Step 2: Coat The Chicken

  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg (if using).
  • Toss marinated chicken in cornstarch (or mix egg and cornstarch for a thicker batter).

Step 3: Fry The Chicken

  • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  • Fry the coated chicken pieces until golden and crispy (about 4–5 minutes).
  • Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Make The Lemon Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine lemon juice, honey/sugar, soy sauce, and water.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Stir in grated ginger and lemon zest (if using).
  • Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens (1–2 minutes).

Step 5: Combine

  • Add fried chicken to the pan with the lemon sauce.
  • Toss to coat all pieces evenly in the sauce.
  • Cook for another 1–2 minutes to allow the chicken to absorb flavor.

Step 6: Serve

  • Garnish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds (optional).
  • Serve hot with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
