Total Time 50 minutes mins
- 500g boneless chicken (thighs or breasts), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup cornstarch (or all-purpose flour)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 egg (optional, for batter)
- Oil for frying
For Lemon Sauce:
- 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 2 tbsp honey or sugar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional, for extra lemony flavor)
Step 1: Marinate The Chicken
In a bowl, mix chicken with 1 tbsp soy sauce and a little salt and pepper.
Let it marinate for at least 15–20 minutes.
Step 2: Coat The Chicken
In a separate bowl, beat the egg (if using).
Toss marinated chicken in cornstarch (or mix egg and cornstarch for a thicker batter).
Step 3: Fry The Chicken
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
Fry the coated chicken pieces until golden and crispy (about 4–5 minutes).
Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 4: Make The Lemon Sauce
In a saucepan, combine lemon juice, honey/sugar, soy sauce, and water.
Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
Stir in grated ginger and lemon zest (if using).
Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens (1–2 minutes).
Step 5: Combine
Add fried chicken to the pan with the lemon sauce.
Toss to coat all pieces evenly in the sauce.
Cook for another 1–2 minutes to allow the chicken to absorb flavor.
