Ground meat, usually beef, pork, or a combination, is combined with binders like breadcrumbs and eggs, as well as seasonings and vegetables, to create the traditional comfort food dish known as meatloaf.

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp ketchup (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano (optional)
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven
    Set to 180 °C (350 °F). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  • Mix ingredients
    In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and optional spices. Mix until just combined—avoid overmixing.
  • Shape loaf
    Transfer mixture into the loaf pan, pressing gently to form a smooth top.
  • Add topping
    Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top for flavor and moisture.
  • Bake
    Place in the oven and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 70 °C (160 °F).
  • Rest and slice
    Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to keep it juicy.
