For The Cake
- 2½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
- 2½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature
Optional Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- Pinch of salt
Step 2: Mix The Dry Ingredients

Step 5: Combine Wet And Dry Ingredients
Add the flour mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk.
Begin and end with the flour mixture.
Mix on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 6: Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Smooth the tops with a spatula.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
Beat the softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time.
Mix in the vanilla extract and salt.
Add heavy cream one tablespoon at a time until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
Beat for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Assemble The Cake
Place one cake layer on a serving plate.
Spread an even layer of vanilla buttercream over the top.
Add the second cake layer.
Frost the top and sides evenly.
Decorate with sprinkles, fresh berries, or piped frosting if desired.
